Cycling

9 months of training and I now sit here and look back on my first triathlon. The race was really an excuse to get back into training now that life has allowed more time for such things. Before I go any further though I have to come out and say it. All I've learned from doing a triathlon is that I really like to ride my bike. I'm glad that a triathlon gave me that opportunity again but wouldn't it be easier to just skip the other two sports and go ride?

The night before my race I actually found myself weighing my bike and it was at that point that I realized I had started to dip into the slow-twitch dark side. I have now made a vow to myself that I will be more conscious about not straying to far. Legs will not be shaved, sleeves not cut off and that lightweight birth-control SLR saddle will not be back on my bike.

Next month comes the triathlon that started all of this fascination, an Xterra off-road triathlon on our local trails. It's sad that I needed an excuse like Xterra to get me back, but when I think back, my fascination with Xterra really came from watching/reading about The Lung, Ned Overend dominating the sport after dominating the mountain bike scene for so many years. He's always been my cycling hero and someday I will have that Mountain Dew pop machine cover hanging in my basement. I hope to race the Iron Horse Classic one of these years and many others things and they all seem to be direct correlation's to races I've read about Ned doing.

Maybe one of these days we'll meet, but until then, it's back to training so I can take on those mountain states classics like Leadville.

Canon 5D

A new camera that has been released has finally given me some excitement about the photography industry. This is mostly due to my background in video also. In video there is always the constant struggle because you want the control and DOF like that from a still camera, but instead you have to deal with video companies that can't seem to bring the 'still' technology to motion.

But the new 5D brings these together and has the potential of changing the industry...or at least bringing the two industries closer together. Before now, video from a still camera was a joke and only good enough for having fun with friends at a ball game. But now, a still camera will actually give motion cameras a run for their money.

I'd love to get my hands on one of these to see how it could change the way we shoot weddings. Imagine two shooters, both with 5D's that go back and forth between stills and video and the client doesn't know the difference. The potential is not realized completely yet but I can't wait for the future.

The cons? Audio looks to be the biggest drawback currently, but we'll see more when the final camera is released.

updates

I guess this is why I've never had a blog...because I never have any time to update it. Once the 70 hour work weeks slow down I'll be back on.

Here are a few photos from last weekend. Tried posting it from Blog It in Facebook but it doesn't work.
Had a great day in Lyons, my first time there, and was impressed by how nice the firefighters hall was...and some great food by HyVee in Fremont.
